GreenDEAL GREENup Newsletter No8/20th August 11

Good Afternoon

My weekly roundup brings you a mixture of government support, renewable energy facts, news and best practice.

From my heart warming charity work to news of more enterprise zones, it certainly makes interesting reading!

The core message throughout all my research, posts and blogs is about how your business can reduce costs whilst improving your environmental performance.   Being both lean and green makes economic sense and will enhance reputation and give you a competitive advantage.

If you are thinking of taking up opportunities in the low carbon growth industry, you must prepare for the Green Deal.  Very worryingly, a new report reveals that the construction industry is not gearing up to biggest opportunity this decade.  The report provides suggestions that focus on the opportunities that the Green Deal will provide if you wish to develop this market.

Make yourself aware of the Green Deal Authorisation Scheme and see how you can you get Green Deal registered.  You must start to think about this now as time is running out to get your business repositioned for the Green Deal launch in October 2012.

The Government is further raising the profile of renewable energy and low carbon industries by announcing 11 new enterprise zones.  To help you with an understanding of bio-energy and renewable heat technology, refer to my interesting factsheets.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to reducing UK’s carbon output, social landlords will be able to bid for a share of £3 million, part of the £15 million Renewable Heat Premium Payment budget, to make home heating improvements to tenants’ homes.  To put this into perspective, approximately 40% of the country’s social housing stock is owned by local authorities, 15% is managed by arm's length management organisations and 45% by housing associations.  The roll out of retrofitting this particular sector is a huge programme of works

A support framework for construction is detailed in the recently launched Government Construction Strategy which aims to stimulate growth by enabling more to be constructed within funds by using sheer scale in procurement.  ‘Corporate Social Responsibility on Supply Chain Management’ looks at how European companies can apply responsible supply chain management in practice.

Take a look at the example of best practice - a charity has completed an innovative eco-building programme at a dogs’ home which includes super wall insulation, triple glazing, rainwater harvesting and recycling and solar PV panels on the roof of the home.

What is a good way forward for you?  Check out the new ISO 50001 and implementation will save on energy costs; help you to comply with legislation; and manage risk.

If you are in the air conditioning industry, why not try for an industry award?  Show your employees, customers and competitors that you are a leading light with your technological achievements and successes.

I hope you enjoy reading these articles.  If you want to save on costs, speed up your environmental management, do not hesitate to contact me for a free consultation.

Best wishes
