Today the High Court is hearing legal challenges by two solar companies and Friends of the Earth about the cut in financial incentives for renewable electricity……..
At the hearing, scheduled today, it will focus on the Government's action to halve payments under the feed-in tariff scheme for installations after 12 December 2011. One area of argument is the timing of the cuts before consultation on the proposed changes.
The outcome the industry is hoping for is the Government to abandon the 12 December cut-off date, boost the budget for the feed-in tariff scheme by using tax revenues, and to establish a system which enables feed-in tariff support to gradually digress in line with the falling cost of solar technology in order to prevent shocks to the market.
