SHOOTS OF GREEN DEAL INITIATIVE APPEAR AS LOCAL DELIVERY TEAM GETS READY FOR MINISTERIAL VISIT

Plans for stimulating the local economy through the national initiative called ‘Green Deal’ are gaining momentum with an official launch of Wigan based Green Deal Consortia planned for early next month (February 2013).

The launch will take place as part of an official visit to Wigan Borough by Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker on Thursday 14 February 2013.

The Green Deal Consortia is a national organisation based in the North West (Wigan) for the delivery of the Green Deal Initiative whose primary aim is to build a local, regional and national work force of sole traders, small businesses and apprentices who can undertake work for the domestic and commercial market who sign up to Green Deal.

Phyllis Prior-Boardman, executive director of Green Deal Consortia Ltd, has recently returned from a visit to the USA to meet the Honourable Mr Julian Castro, Mayor of San Antonio, Texas where issues surrounding the development of a more environmentally sustainable economy both in the UK and the US were discussed.

Mrs Prior-Boardman, who is an authority on environmental sustainability said: “Mayor Castro’s greening agenda won public praise from President Obama during his 2012 State of the Union Address and I was honoured that I was part of the group that were tasked with enhancing cooperation between our countries on issues surrounding energy and the environment.

“I am now taking what I learnt from Mayor Castro and his team and placing a special focus on my home town where I am passionate about getting as many of our young people, traders and small businesses signed up to Green Deal.

“The Green Deal Consortia already has an extensive number of guaranteed jobs and the number just keeps on growing. We can pass these jobs on – but we need to get the workforce certified and accredited.

“That is what the Green Deal Consortia is tasked to do. So I am currently discussing various opportunities with local educational establishments and training providers so we can hit the ground running when the national Green Deal Initiative launches in January.

Editors’ Note:

The Green Deal Consortia is a national organisation based in the North West (Wigan Borough) set up to deliver the Green Deal, the new government initiative to improve the energy efficiency of the UK's building stock, and Energy Company Obligation. It combines small businesses, green deal providers, utility companies, and other funders and investors to provide the means for micro businesses to get a fair share of the green growth markets.

The Green Deal Consortia has become a government good practice SME model, and links small businesses to funders so that they can carry out energy efficiency works for householders across the UK and thereby stimulate local economies.  Ultimately its aim is to create new jobs and promote growth on a local, regional and national basis.
